Dienhart: 10 things I learned in Week 4

It was a busy Saturday in the Big Ten, with 10 games taking place. Michigan continues to live dangerously, no team runs like Wisconsin, Nebraska still loves Bo and the Michigan State offense still has a ways to go. I learned a lot. Take a look. But, honestly, that’s not too big of a statement, is it? I mean, the sophomore came

Tom’s Take: Week 4 honors, grades, top 10 & more

Week Four in the Big Ten is over. And, it was a mixed bag in what was the last big full-blown Saturday of non-conference action. The headliner game was Michigan State at Notre Dame. The Spartans came up short, as the Fighting Irish won despite notching a scant 221 yards in a 17-13 victory. For the second week in a row, Michigan barely avoided a big upset, sneaking by UConn, 24-21. The day also saw three games vs. FCS foes. And, the Big Ten won all three by an aggregate 170-41. Big Ten play began with Wisconsin trampling Purdue, 41-10. Here’s

Who's up & down in our Big Ten Power Rankings?

It’s time to get powered up with my Sunday Big Ten rankings. This Saturday didn’t provide any dramatic victories or stunning losses, so my ranking didn’t shift dramatically. But, Wisconsin did make a move, as did Minnesota, Penn State and Iowa, while Michigan State sinks the most. POWER RANKINGS PRESENTED BY 1. Ohio State, 4-0: Ohio State could have played with 10 guys and picked plays out of a hat and still squashed Florida A&M. Now, the real season starts for a team with a national-best 16-game winning skein. Will Braxton Miller be ready? This week: Beat Florida A&M, 76-0

Ready for Saturday? Take this B1G Grid Quiz!

I had this ninth grade English teacher named Mr. Trent at West Lafayette High School. And every Friday, he’d give us a “Super Quiz.” Only he spelled Quiz “Kwiz.” Man, I hated that. And I hated his quizzes even more. They ruined the Friday of every 14-year-old. So, it is in the late Mr. Trent’s honor that I present you with this week’s B1G grid quiz. Good luck. You’ll need it—or maybe not. We are 25 percent of the way through the season. Can you believe it? No, that’s not the question. This is: Which player has been most impressive?

Four Downs: A "zany" Saturday for the Big Ten?

It’s that time of the week again, time for Four Downs, an informative and fun look at the Saturday ahead. No, it’s not a big Saturday, as there is a dearth of marquee games among the 10 on the docket. Nonetheless, some zany things could happen. Best of Week 4: MSU-Notre Dame matchup has it all

There aren’t many high-calorie contests on this 10-game Big Ten menu for Saturday, just light fare for the most part. Michigan State at Notre Dame is the clear headliner. And Missouri at Indiana is filled with intrigue, as this is the lone regular-season clash between the Big Ten and SEC. And the lid is taken off Big Ten action with Purdue playing at Wisconsin. After that? Meh. A big issue– There are three games vs. FCS foes: Maine at Northwestern; South Dakota State at Nebraska; Florida A&M at Ohio State. There are absolutely no redeeming qualities about any of those
