Four Downs: Who's ready for Week 9?

Saturday is almost here. Can you feel it? Can you sense it? OK, if you can’t, just fake it until you make it. Every team gets four downs to make something happen. So, why not me? That’s the idea behind this article. Here’s what’s running through my mind as I dream fancifully about Week 9 of the Big Ten season. 4 PREDICTIONS 1. Michigan State isn’t going to look past Illinois and fast forward to its Nov. 2 visit from Michigan. Not a chance. Not after the Spartans’ basically sleepwalked past Purdue in a 14-0 win that set off alarm

Best of Week 9: Can PSU pull off another upset?

Another light, yet exciting week ahead, with four teams off–Indiana, Michigan, Purdue and Wisconsin. Still, this Saturday has a marquee, prime-time game to hang its hat on with Penn State playing at Ohio State. The loser of the Northwestern at Iowa game may be hard-pressed to become bowl-eligible. Nebraska is locked and loaded for a big second half of the season, which begins at Minnesota. NU must win if it wants to win the Legends, right? How lopsided has the Nebraska-Minnesota series been? Check it out: Nebraska has beaten the Golden Gophers 16 times in a row. The last Gophers’

Dienhart: Here's what I learned in Week 8

So much went on this Saturday, I don’t know where to start. How about with 110 points and 1,323 yards, which is what Indiana-Michigan combined for in a game that left many breathless. While the Wolverines may have answered some questions about their listless offense, questions about their defense may have been created in the process. Oh, well. What else did I learn? Check it out. Power Rankings: Wildcats continue descent

With Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Michigan winning—and Nebraska being off—there were no changes to the top of my Big Ten power rankings, presented by ArcelorMittal. But there was plenty of shifting in the bottom half, highlighted (lowlighted?) by Northwestern’s continued descent. It wasn’t long ago that I had the Wildcats No. 2 in the Big Ten. Now? Well, have a look for yourself. [ MORE: Enter the Buffalo Wild Wings Trip to the Football Championship Sweepstakes ] POWER RANKINGS PRESENTED BY 1. Ohio State (7-0, 3-0). Tom's Take: My Week 8 grades, stocks & more

For the most part, it was business as usual in the Big Ten on this Saturday. Ohio State reasserted its dominance with a 19th victory in a row. Wisconsin dominated Illinois and Michigan State was methodical vs. Purdue, while Michigan beat Indiana in one of the wildest games of the season. Northwestern? I don’t know what to make of the Wildcats. Here is a wrap of Week 8. [ MORE: Here’s what Tom Dienhart learned in Week 8 ] Biggest surprise: Michigan State only winning 14-0 over a one-win Purdue team in East Lansing. Pitching a shutout was expected. But

How did we do? Week 8 Big Ten picks revisited

Before we turn our attention to Week 9, it’s time to revisit how the BTN.com team and Big Ten fans did with their Week 8 Big Ten predictions. Our entire panel and Big Ten fans all went 4-1, missing Minnesota’s victory over Northwestern, meaning Stephen Bardo, Sean Merriman and Brent Yarina remain in a first-place tie. Michigan State Band

Check out what Purdue band formed at halftime

At halftime of the Purdue-Michigan State on Saturday afternoon, the Boilermakers’ marching band put on a performance that caught our attention. Motorcycle enthusiasts will find it interesting, too. Yes, the band formed a motorcycle, and it even included “exhaust” for when it moved across the field. It was really cool, and you can watch it below.
