The No. 1-ranked Penn State volleyball team picked up a huge non-conference win on Saturday night, downing No. 2 Stanford in straight sets (25-21, 25-22, 25-18). The Nittany Lions hit .327 (51 kills – 14 errors) behind a balanced attack, while Stanford hit .267. Haleigh Washington, Aiyana Whitney, Ali Frantti and Megan Courtney all recorded over 10 kills for Penn State in the victory. The Nittany Lions improve to 5-0 on the season with the impressive win. After claiming their seventh national title last season, the Nittany Lions top the preseason poll for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. Two-time defending national champ Penn State paces sits atop the the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division I Coaches Preseason Poll, released Wednesday afternoon. The Nittany Lions are one of four top 10 Big Ten teams, as Nebraska and 2014 Big Ten regular-season champ Wisconsin are tied for No. 5 and Illinois comes in at No. 8.
