Ever since Bill O’Brien announced Penn State would include last names on the back of its jerseys this fall, people have wondered what it will look like. On Saturday morning, a couple of hours before Penn State’s season opener vs. Ohio, @PennStateFball tweeted a picture of the jerseys hanging in the Penn State locker room.
Friday night marked the annual Penn State Football Eve at Beaver Stadium, and for several reasons, this pep rally was different than all the ones before it. For the obvious reason, this was the first event without head coach Joe Paterno, who was fired late last year and died months later. On top of that, the Penn State fan base has really rallied around this team and coach Bill O’Brien in the wake of the NCAA sanctions that crippled it this offseason.

Several Big Ten teams took to the volleyball court and soccer pitch on Friday night. Penn State volleyball came out with a five-set win over Standford, while the Purdue women’s soccer team scored a 2-0 win over Tennessee-Martin. Five years sure goes fast, doesn’t it? On Thursday, BTN celebrated its 5th anniversary, and to help acknowledge the big day, Mike Hall and Rick Pizzo hosted “BTN 5th Anniversary Special.” It was a memorable show that looked back at all the great moments from our time on the air.
The biggest number at the BTN offices today is 5 – as in our five-year anniversary. The years have flown by – though some of the days have been a bit arduous. That’s the nature of any kind of new venture. I was reflecting this morning on my first meeting with the BTN people. Frankly, I wasn’t sure how interested I was. I really didn’t understand what it was going to be.
