Indiana held serve against Michigan State to move into a tie with Michigan atop the Big Ten standings. Normally, I’d use this opportunity to point out that although Indiana won by 5, the outcome actually suggests that Michigan State is the better team. But I don’t think that’s true here, because Indiana was equal to or better than the Spartans in all but one category—three-point shooting. MSU made 11 of its 23 attempts from behind the three-point line, and I’ll go ahead and call that an aberration.

You’ve heard of Happy Valley. Wait until you see Hockey Valley. Penn State’s new hockey home, Pegula Ice Arena, is a sight to behold. The new facility, which will open for the 2014 season, included an $80 million construction fee, and it’s pretty easy to see where all the money went. With a capacity of 6,000, Pegula will be the smallest arena in the Big Ten, however it was constructed to have the fans right on the ice. Watch Kara Lentz’s all-access tour of the new arena now.

Sam Thompson scored 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting, and No. 15 Ohio State took advantage of cold-shooting Penn State in a 65-51 victory Saturday. Deshaun Thomas added 11 points, well below his Big Ten-leading average of 20.5. Thompson picked up the slack against the Nittany Lions, who went 11-plus minutes of the first half without a field goal.
