The Penn State board of trustees press conference, which announced the dismissal of Joe Paterno and University President Graham Spanier (read the AP story), will air on BTN beginning at 2 a.m. ET Thursday. Repeats of the presser will run until 11 a.m., at which time the press conference to announce Tom Bradley, formerly the defensive coordinator, as the interim head coach is scheduled to begin. Penn State Fires Paterno, Spanier

The Penn State Board of Trustees announced Wednesday night that football coach Joe Paterno and president Graham Spanier have been terminated in the wake of the recent scandal at Penn State. Read PSU.edu’s release. Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley will serve as the interim coach. Paterno, 84 and in his 46th season as the head coach, announced earlier in the day that he was going to retire following the season. Penn State plays Nebraska on Saturday at Beaver Stadium, which is senior day and would have been Paterno’s final home game. Read the AP story.

On Wednesday afternoon, Penn State acting Director of Athletics Mark Sherburne released an official statement regarding the school’s recent scandal. In the statement, Sherburne wrote: “Every day we are entrusted with the lives of young people, and we do not – nor have we ever – taken that trust lightly. Wednesday morning, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno released a statement announcing his decision to retire at the end of the season. “I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care.
