Building the ultimate 2014 Big Ten quarterback

The Big Ten has featured plenty of great quarterbacks, including Drew Brees, Troy Smith and Russell Wilson, to name a few. But as good as these guys were, none of them were perfect in every area of the game. This got me thinking, what would my perfect Big Ten quarterback look like? You know, a quarterback with the ideal arm strength, size, speed, accuracy, smarts and ability to perform in the clutch. I chose six Big Ten quarterbacks and combined their skill sets (hypothetically, of course) to create one, ultimate Big Ten signal-caller. Here we go. [ MORE: Four Big

Best of Week 12: Rematch of 2012 Big Ten title game

There are two non-conference games tucked into this mid-November Saturday, which rarely happens this late in the season in the Big Ten. Northwestern’s trip to Notre Dame could be interesting. But a division title could be center stage: Nebraska at Wisconsin. Here’s a breakdown of the best of Week 12. NFL.com lists 1995 Huskers as greatest of all time

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer made news this past weekend when he told a group of youth football campers over the weekend that his 2008 Florida team was the greatest team in college football history. The debate is one for the ages, as there are plenty of acceptable answers to that question. NFL.com recently released a top-five list, in which it has the 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers as the greatest college football team of all time. Here is a look at NFL.com’s rankings. Dienhart: Your team's 2014 cupcake game

Pretty much every team has one game on its schedule that can be viewed as a “cupcake.” Now, that doesn’t mean the team is guaranteed to roll to victory – or even win the game. There’s always the chance a team pulls an upset. That said, here is my easiest game for every Big Ten team. [ MORE: Must-win games | Best chance to pull upset | Rugged stretches ] ILLINOIS A season-opening visit from FCS Youngstown State should offer the chance to shake those orange and blue pom-pons fast and furiously. Photo: James Franklin cheers on Vandy at CWS

James Franklin’s Vanderbilt days are over, but the Penn State coach was back in black Saturday on the opening day of the College World Series. Franklin, who left Nashville for Penn State in January, was in Omaha to cheer on his former school’s baseball team and friend, Vandy coach Tim Corbin. Vanderbilt topped Louisville, 5-3, and plays UC Irvine at 8 p.m. ET tonight. h/t: @LostLettermen About Brent Yarina BTN.com senior editor Brent Yarina covers football and men’s basketball for BTN.com. Best of Week 11: Urban Meyer vs. Mark Dantonio Part III

Ohio State’s trip to Michigan State could be the game of the year in the Big Ten, as both schools look like the favorites to win the conference crown. They met in the Big Ten title game last season, with the Spartans dumping the Buckeyes to earn their first trip to the Rose Bowl since the 1987 season and end OSU’s 24-game winning streak and national championship hopes. Best of Week 10: Calendar flips to November

The calendar now says “November.” And, as coaches are known to say: “November is when they play the games to remember.” But this Saturday lacks any apparent marquee games, although that could change depending on how things unfold. Best of Week 9: It's Michigan at Michigan State

Two interesting clashes make this Saturday appealing, as Michigan plays at Michigan State and Ohio State goes to Penn State in a light week of action. Despite the presence of just five games, the heft of those aforementioned contests makes this a good week, as the Big Ten East race will start to take form. Here’s my best of Week 9.
