BTN will offer its most extensive baseball and softball coverage ever in 2017, with over 400 games airing on BTN/BTN2Go and BTN Plus during the upcoming season. Maryland was voted the preseason favorite to claim the 2017 Big Ten Baseball Championship, as selected by the conference coaches, it was announced Wednesday. The coaches voted on the top six teams and also selected three students from their own squads to a Preseason Honors list.

The Big Ten Network today announced Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber as the grand marshal of the BTN Big 10K. Schwarber will join thousands of Big Ten fans and runners on Aug. 6, 2016, for 10K and 5K runs, as well as a football-themed tailgate party afterwards. “It will be a blast to relive my Big Ten days at one of Chicago’s best summer tailgates,” said Schwarber, who was an All-American baseball player at Indiana University. “I can’t wait to see Big Ten and Cubs fans hit the city streets to represent their schools and support Special Olympics Chicago.” Schwarber

The 2016 MLB draft came to a close Saturday night. Nebraska outfielder Ryan Boldt (Tampa Bay) and Ohio State outfielder Ronnie Dawson (Houston) each went in the second round, No. 53 and No. 61, respectively. Thing is, the back-and-forth banter took a backseat to what was going on behind Beals. Loose as ever, hours after dispatching rival Michigan in an earlier elimination game, the Buckeyes choreographed an entertaining videobomb, complete with squirt guns and the team’s battle axe. “Uh, you’ve got squirt guns going pretty strong behind you,” Kugler said. “I’m sure you’re aware of that.” “Our guys have learned to enjoy (it), grinding it out and competing,” Beals said.
