Volleyball Report: Who keeps on playing?

With the Big Ten Title reclaimed by Penn State this past weekend what remains to be decided in the regular season’s final week is whether or not an eighth Big Ten team is headed to the postseason and which conference members will be hosting the first two rounds of the tournament. Last week we broke down the two remaining Big Ten teams with chances to improve their postseason fates before the conclusion of conference play.  Northwestern and Wisconsin both split their weekend matches meaning each will finish with a record above .500, meeting the minimum attractive levels for the NCAA

Volleyball Report: Where are the top student sections?

There is little doubt that the Big Ten has the most passionate and largest fan bases of any conference in the nation. Six of the top ten teams nationally in average attendance this season reside in the Big Ten, including four of the top five. Nebraska has the most dedicated fan base in the country with 175 consecutive sell outs of the NU Coliseum, the longest sell-out streak of any women’s collegiate sport. The conference’s two most successful programs, Nebraska and Penn State, draw the largest attendance numbers and create two of the best environments for volleyball you could hope

Penn State Shuts Out Ohio State 3-0

The No. 7 Penn State field hockey team continued its hunt for the Big Ten Championship Friday afternoon, defeating No. 21 Ohio State 3-0 for the fourth conference win of the season. The Nittany Lions, now 13-3 overall with a 4-1 mark in the Big Ten, currently rest atop the Big Ten standings. No. 1 Penn State sweeps No. 20 Ohio State

The No. 1 Penn State women’s volleyball team (19-1, 9-0 Big Ten) defeated No. 20 Ohio State, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-22), on Wednesday night. Michigan scores straight set win over Illinois

Michigan’s women’s volleyball team wins in straight sets with the upset victory over Illinois, 3-0, in Ann Arbor on Wednesday night. In men’s soccer action, Ohio State beat Bowling Green 2-0 and improve to 5-7-1 on the year.

Penn State secures 5-2 victory over Indiana

No. 4 Penn State (12-2-0, 6-0-0) used three goals in a six-minute span to secure a 5-2 victory over Indiana on Sunday at Jeffrey Field. Wildcats Stun Penn State 5-4 in OT

Chelsea Armstrong, Northwestern’s all-time leading scorer, capped her hat trick just 12 seconds into overtime as the 10th-ranked Wildcats rallied from two goals down to defeat No. 6 Penn State 5-4 Friday afternoon. Wednesday Olympic Sports Round-Up

Several Big Ten teams were in action Wednesday night, including the  sixth-ranked Nebraska volleyball team hosting the 24th-ranked Michigan State volleyball team. The Cornhuskers made quick work of the Spartans, sweeping them in straight sets. Freshmen Jaylyn Odermann and Katie Kraeutner led the Nebraska soccer team (1-3-0) to its first win of the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon at the Nebraska Soccer Field with a 2-0 shutout of the New Mexico Lobos.
