This was quite the week in Big Ten basketball action. With all the shakeups that took place, my latest Big Ten Power Rankings, presented by ArcelorMittal, certainly look a little different. As expected, there’s a new No. 1 following Michigan’s impressive win over Michigan State. This week, the Wolverines get to stake claim to the top stop. Find out where your team lands in this post.
In case you haven’t noticed by your Big Ten coach’s attire, it’s Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers™ Awareness Weekend. All weekend long, coaches from all over the country are wearing sneakers with their suits to raise awareness for the fight against cancer. See pictures of Big Ten coaches rocking the look in this post.
BTN’s third Frozen Friday of the year was a good one. Michigan cruised to a 5-2 victory over Michigan State in the first game of the night. Wisconsin followed with an impressive 5-3 come-from-behind win over Ohio State in the nightcap. Catch up on all the scores, stats and video highlights in this post.
Illinois and Ohio State had their share of misses from the field Thursday night. After all, the Illini shot 41 percent and the Buckeyes came in at 42 percent in the 62-55 Ohio State win. But there was one miss that neither team – nor anyone watching – will forget. That, of course, would be Lenzelle Smith Jr.’s 3-pointer in the second half that got stuck on top of the backboard. The ball remained there until Illinois big man Nnanna Egwu, with the help of a floor mop, jumped up at knocked the ball loose. Watch the scene in this post.
