BTN will air a 30-minute special Black History Month presentation called “Football Pioneers” at 9:30 p.m. ET Friday Hosted by Howard Griffith, the show features interviews with former Northwestern head coach Dennis Green,who was just the second African-American head coach in Division I history. We also talk with Sidney Williams, a former Wisconsin quarterback who was Big Ten’s first African-American starting quarterback, and current Purdue head coach Darrell Hazell.

Deshaun Thomas overcame a slow start to score 19 points and No. 18 Ohio State used a 16-0 second-half run to beat Minnesota 71-45 on Wednesday night. Shannon Scott added 11 points and LaQuinton Ross 10 for the Buckeyes, who have won the last six meetings with the Golden Gophers overall and the last six in Columbus.

During a timeout in the first half of Ohio State’s win over Minnesota on Wednesday, Ohio State legend and Big Ten Icon (No. 8) Jerry Lucas was recognized on the court. Lucas, a three-time All-American, three-time Big Ten Most Valuable Player, two-time National Player of the Year and two-time Final Four MVP, received his NCAA Tournament Top 75 Player trophy. On Monday night’s “Big Ten Football Report,” Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith joined the show to share some of the ideas discussed at the latest conference meetings. Smith touched on several topics, including the annual date of the Michigan-Ohio State game, plus the possibility of Michigan and Ohio State landing in the same division and of November night games.
