Northwestern unleashed a six-run fifth inning Sunday at Wisconsin on its way to an 8-3 win and the series win. Leadoff hitter Emily Allard recorded her second four-hit game of the season, while also adding two runs and an RBI. Northwestern moves to 14-18 overall on the season with its win, 2-4 in the Big Ten. Softball opens Big Ten slate this weekend

After six weeks of non-conference play, the Big Ten softball schedule opens this weekend for all 12 teams. Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State and Purdue all host conference-opening series this weekend. Big Ten softball season opens Thursday

The 2012 Big Ten softball season is set to begin this week with 10 teams taking to the diamond on the opening weekend of play. Nebraska opens the season on Thursday, while Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State and Penn State begin on Friday, and Minnesota opens its season on Saturday.
