Ohio State outfielder Tim Wetzel closed out the final home game of his career on quite a high note. The Buckeyes’ senior left fielder went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run at the plate, and also made two incredible catches in Ohio State’s 5-2 win over Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. Wetzel’s highlight-reel day started right off the bat as he made a diving catch to rob Northwestern’s Luke Dauch of a hit on the very first play of the game. Sometimes, rivalries take a backseat to reality. That was evident at the Cincinnati-Ohio State baseball game Tuesday, as the Bearcats added No. 11 patches to the right sleeve of their jersey. The patch honors Ohio State freshman pitcher Zach Farmer, who was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia late last month and will miss the rest of the season. See a picture of the patch in this post. Buckeyes go to bat for teammate Zach Farmer

Ohio State baseball players are determined to help out teammate Zach Farmer, who was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia in late April. The Buckeyes and staff – 37 in all – swabbed their cheeks with Q-Tips Monday to see whether they are a match for Farmer, or anyone else in the nation. Ohio State freshman pitcher Zach Farmer will miss the rest of the season while being treated for leukemia. Farmer, a left-hander with a 6-4 record and a 3.28 ERA, has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He had been feeling sick for about a week when he went to see Ohio State’s team doctor Monday. Originally thought to have mononucleosis, a blood draw confirmed he had abnormalities in his blood counts. CHICAGO – BTN is the home for complete coverage of Big Ten spring championships in May and will televise events in the sports of baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, rowing, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. BTN to air record number of baseball, softball games

CHICAGO – BTN will offer its most extensive baseball and softball coverage ever, with over 240 events airing on BTN, BTN2Go and the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN) for the 2014 season. BTN’s television coverage of Big Ten baseball begins with the third game of a three-game series between Indiana and Michigan. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday from Bloomington. Last season, Indiana won both the Big Ten Championship and Tournament, and advanced to the College World Series, becoming the first Big Ten squad to reach Omaha since Michigan in 1984.
