BTN announces Big Ten baseball tourney coverage

CHICAGO – BTN’s coverage of the Big Ten Baseball Tournament begins at 6 PM ET on Wednesday with No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 8 Iowa from TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., home of the College World Series. The network will also carry games 6, 7 and 8 on Thursday, each game Friday and Saturday and the Big Ten Baseball Tournament Championship Game, which will air at 2 PM ET on Sunday. The Big Ten on Tuesday announced the 2014 baseball All-Big Ten Teams and individual award winners, as voted by the conference’s coaches. Indiana’s Sam Travis was the unanimous choice for Player of the Year, teammate Joey DeNato garnered Pitcher of the Year accolades and Tracy Smith was tabbed Coach of the Year, while Ohio State’s Tanner Tully took home Freshman of the Year honors. 2014 B1G baseball tournament schedule

The Big Ten released the 2014 Big Ten Baseball Tournament bracket on Saturday evening, with Indiana securing the top seed after winning its second straight conference title. The Hoosiers claimed the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after going 21-3 in conference play. This year’s tournament will feature an eight-team field for the first time and will be held May 21-25 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., home of the College World Series. OSU's Tim Wetzel has incredible day on the diamond

Ohio State outfielder Tim Wetzel closed out the final home game of his career on quite a high note. The Buckeyes’ senior left fielder went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run at the plate, and also made two incredible catches in Ohio State’s 5-2 win over Northwestern on Saturday afternoon. Wetzel’s highlight-reel day started right off the bat as he made a diving catch to rob Northwestern’s Luke Dauch of a hit on the very first play of the game. Sometimes, rivalries take a backseat to reality. That was evident at the Cincinnati-Ohio State baseball game Tuesday, as the Bearcats added No. 11 patches to the right sleeve of their jersey. The patch honors Ohio State freshman pitcher Zach Farmer, who was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia late last month and will miss the rest of the season. See a picture of the patch in this post. Ohio State baseball players are determined to help out teammate Zach Farmer, who was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia in late April. The Buckeyes and staff – 37 in all – swabbed their cheeks with Q-Tips Monday to see whether they are a match for Farmer, or anyone else in the nation.
