Pat Summitt, the winningest coach in Division I college basketball history who lifted the women’s game to national prominence during her 38-year career at Tennessee, died Tuesday. She was 64. With an icy glare on the sidelines, Summitt led the Lady Vols to eight national championships and prominence on a campus steeped in the traditions of the football-rich south until she retired in 2012. The Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals are set. Maryland, Northwestern, Ohio State and Michigan State advanced in Friday’s quarterfinal in Indianapolis. In the opener, No. 1 seeded Maryland eliminated No. 9 Iowa, 75-55. No. 12 Northwestern followed that with an impressive 79-73 upset victory over No. 4 Indiana, while No. 2 Ohio State cruised by No. 10 Rutgers in the third game, 73-58.
