The University of Iowa baseball team beat Penn State, 4-2, Sunday afternoon in the series finale at Duane Banks Field. The Hawkeyes scored three first-inning runs and never looked back en route to snapping a three-game losing streak. Iowa starter Sasha Kuebel was terrific, earning his fourth win of the year to remain perfect (4-0). The rookie threw seven and a third solid innings, yielding just two runs, striking out two while scattering seven hits. It was another busy Sunday of action on Big Ten baseball diamonds. Perhaps the most exciting of the six games, Michigan State outlasted archrival Michigan, 10-8, in a 13-inning marathon. Illinois, Ohio State and Purdue also were victorious, as was Penn State, which went out of conference and nipped Canisius. Purdue’s win over Northwestern gave it a two-game cushion atop the Big Ten standings. Michigan scored a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth innings and Trent Szkutnik and Alex Lakatos allowed two earned runs in a 4-3 victory over Michigan State on Saturday at McLane Stadium.
