Nebraska assistant soccer coach Peter Underwood, 31, dies

The University of Nebraska Athletics Department is deeply saddened to confirm that Assistant Soccer Coach Peter Underwood was tragically killed in a car accident on Saturday, May 16, 2015, while on a recruiting trip near Atlantic, Iowa. Underwood just completed his fourth season with the Nebraska women’s soccer program, serving the last two as a full-time coach and the previous two as a volunteer assistant. Underwood helped the Huskers to the Big Ten Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2013, as Nebraska posted a 19-4-1 record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Penn State tops women's soccer preseason poll

The Big Ten Conference announced its 2014 women’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll and players to watch list on Wednesday, with Penn State earning top honors among the 14 conference teams. The Nittany Lions enter the season as the conference favorites after making their 19th straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2013. Penn State completed the 2013 campaign with a 7-4-0 conference record (15-7-1 overall), and returns eight starters for the 2014 season. Nebraska got an early penalty kick goal from Jaycie Johnson, and it was all it needed to tally a 1-0 victory over Iowa on Sunday in the 2013 Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament finals. Nebraska and Iowa both advanced to Sunday’s championship game of the Big Ten Women’s Soccer Tournament after winning their semifinal games on Friday afternoon at host site Illinois.
