Nebraska remembers Brook Berringer on anniversary of death

Monday is the 20th anniversary of Brook Berringer’s death. [ MORE: Watch ‘Unbeaten: The Life of Brook Berringer’ on BTN2Go ] Berringer, the backup quarterback who filled in for an injured Tommie Frazier and led Nebraska to the 1994 national title, died on this day in 1996 when the plane the 22-year-old was piloting crashed in Raymond, Nebraska. Two years ago, to commemorate the 18th anniversary of No. 18’s death, BTN Originals produced “Unbeaten” The Life of Brook Berringer,” a documentary that profiled the quarterback’s story. [ MORE: Watch a replay of the Nebraska spring game on BTN2Go ] At Nebraska, when you’re quarterback Tommy Armstrong and wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp, you play a quick game of Hangman on the whiteboard. The roommates were caught playing the popular game on the team bench with just a little but more than one minute remaining at Memorial Stadium. Watch top highlights from Saturday's Big Ten spring games

Saturday featured a handful of Big Ten spring football games. [ MORE: Get all of our spring football game highlights, interviews ] Maryland, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue all put a wrap on their spring schedules Saturday afternoon. The Buckeyes closed their spring in front of a spring game record 100,189 fans at Ohio Stadium. BTN and Riot Games today announced the BTN Invitational: A University League of Legends Event where two of the best Big Ten schools battle head-to-head in the highly-competitive online game League of Legends, the most played PC video game in the world. With the Big Ten Baseball Tournament set to return to Omaha, Nebraska, this season and 2018, the conference announced an extension for TD Ameritrade Park to serve as the host venue from 2019 through 2022, it was announced Tuesday.

Nebraska hires former player Amy Williams as head coach

Nebraska has hired Amy Williams as its new women’s basketball coach, Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst announced Monday. Williams will be formally introduced at 11 a.m. ET Tuesday in a press conference at the Hendricks Training Complex. “Amy is a very skilled and experienced basketball coach who has a track record of success both on and off the court and is an ideal fit for Nebraska,” Eichorst said in a school release.
