Ruggeri, Mikulak shine at men’s individual meet

The second day of the 2012 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships saw individual event winners crowned and All-Conference teams and award winners announced on Saturday night. Four schools won event titles, including two each for both Illinois and Michigan. Paul Ruggeri won both individual event championships for the Illini, while Sam Mikulak took home two titles for the Wolverines.

Illinois wins Big Ten Men’s Crown

Iowa hosted the 2012 Big Ten Men’s Gymnastics Championships Friday which featured the team and all-around competitions. Illinois won their fourth straight Big Ten title and freshman CJ Maestas took home the all-around crown in Friday’s session. All 8 B1G gymnastics teams make NCAA Regionals

All eight Big Ten women’s gymnastics teams have been chosen among the 36-team field to compete at NCAA Regionals on April 7, the selection committee announced on Monday. The Big Ten will be represented at five of the six regional sites.

Nebraska wins Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Crown

In its first attempt, Nebraska won the Big Ten Women’s Gymnastics Championships title on Saturday night. The Huskers tallied a team score of 197.100, while Ohio State followed in second place (196.225) and Minnesota finished third (195.950). Michigan took fourth place (195.875), followed by Illinois in fifth (195.850), Penn State in sixth (195.700), Iowa in seventh (195.425) and Michigan State in eighth (194.675).

Big Ten announces women’s gymnastics teams

The Big Ten Conference announced its women’s gymnastics All-Big Ten teams and Big Ten Championships seeds on Monday. The All-Conference teams feature top-six performers in the all-around and the top six in each of the four events, based on the student-athletes’ regional qualifying average.

Gophers top Hawkeyes, Huskers in Big Ten opener

In last year’s tri-meet against Iowa and Nebraska, the Gophers finished third out of the three competitors. But this season they did not let history repeat itself. It wasn’t Minnesota’s strongest meet. They struggled with the last three events, allowing Nebraska and Iowa to close the scoring gap. But the No. 6 Gophers pulled through and won the meet with a total score of 340.0. The 11th-ranked Cornhuskers finished in second with a 336.5, and No. 12 Iowa came in third at 334.5.
