Season Review: It was a weird season in Lincoln

Weird. No other word better describes this season. The campaign dawned amid great promise, as Nebraska was coming off a Legends Division title. Alas, the defense often looked a lot like it did in 2012, getting gashed for big yards/points after the staff made myriad vows to “fix things.” And the offense struggled to find a rhythm with quarterback Taylor Martinez succumbing to injury that limited him to four games. Sprinkle in plenty of drama surrounding Bo Pelini—the highlight being the mysterious release

[ MORE: View our 2013-14 bowl schedule ] Best game: This will be the 100th Rose Bowl, so that’s a big posterity factor. Even better: This also may be a heck of a ballgame. Thursday links: Forbes.com ranks football teams

This is a great place to start daily links. Forbes.com has ranked the “most valuable” college football teams of 2013. A pretty interesting exercise. The most “valuable” Big Ten franchise: Michigan at No. 5. Next is Ohio State at No. 9; Nebraska No. 10; Penn State is No. 15; Wisconsin is No. 16. I guess I am a bit shocked that Ohio State isn’t No. 1 among Big Ten schools. I don’t care what metrics you use, how can the Buckeyes not be No. 1? Oh, well. It doesn’t really matter. *** The most emotional sports moment of the year?

Dienhart: Ranking stars Big Ten will face in bowls

And one of the best parts of the bowl season is watching players you rarely get a chance to see compete vs. Big Ten foes. Here’s a ranking of the top 25 players Big Ten teams will face in the postseason. For what it’s worth, if Georgia’s Aaron Murray and LSU’s Zach Mettenberger weren’t out with knee injuries, each quarterback would have been high on this list.
