The weekend saw several of the conference’s soccer and volleyball teams in action. The 18th-ranked Indiana men’s soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit with four unanswered goals from Eriq Zavaleta, Alec Purdie and Nikita Kotlov in a 4-1 victory at Michigan on Saturday night. The ninth-ranked Nittany Lions out-blocked 10th-ranked Minnesota on their way to a 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-15) sweep on Saturday. Penn State improved to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten action, while Minnesota dropped to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Several Big Ten volleyball teams were in action on Friday night including the top-ranked Illini who remained undefeated by beating Indiana 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 19-25, 14-25). Ninth-ranked Penn State earned a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) victory against conference foe Wisconsin. There was an upset in Columbus as No. 24 Ohio State beat tenth-ranked Minnesota in three sets (23-25, 20-25, 26-28). Meanwhile, the Michigan held off Iowa in a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-15, 25-17). After trailing in the first set, the No. 9 Minnesota recovered and went on to earn a 3-1 win over Northwestern on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Pavilion. With the win, the Golden Gophers (8-3 overall, 1-1 Big Ten) earned their first conference victory of the 2011 campaign. Northwestern dropped to 9-4 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
