Michigan wins men's swimming and diving championships

The No. 2-ranked University of Michigan men’s swimming and diving team led wire to wire to capture its fourth consecutive Big Ten Conference championship on Saturday in front of the home crowd at Canham Natatorium. The Wolverines tallied 889 points over the four-day of competition, blowing by second-place Indiana (564 points) and third-place Ohio State (515 points). The University of Michigan men’s swimming and diving team moved to the cusp of its fourth straight Big Ten Championship with a dominating performance on Friday (Feb. 28) at Canham Natatorium. The Wolverines won three of the six swimming events, led by senior Kyle Whitaker’s (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) third conference crown, this time in the 400-yard individual medley. Minnesota claimed its third consecutive Big Ten Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship Saturday night, dominating the four-day meet. The Gophers finished with a score of 760 points while Indiana was a strong second with 649 points. Penn State was third with 484 points and Ohio State was fourth with 374. Gopher women lead swim championships after Day 3

Minnesota took another step toward a third consecutive Big Ten championship Friday night, taking a 129-point lead after the third day of competition at University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. Minnesota relied on great depth, qualifying 15 athletes for the championship finals, while posting two individual champions. The Gophers have 526 points while Indiana is second with 397 points and Penn State is third with 314 points. Michigan is fourth with 272 points and Ohio State is fifth with 261 points. Michigan paces Big Ten at NCAA Championships

The Big Ten posted 10 top-ten finishes on the final day of the NCAA Championships on Sunday. Michigan paced the Big Ten with a fifth-place finish (271 points), Indiana finished 10th (140) and No. 12 Ohio State (106), No. 17 Purdue (56) and No. 24 Minnesota (37) followed in the standings.
