Four Big Ten teams were selected to the 2015 NCAA Softball Tournament, as announced on the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night. Big Ten Softball All-Conference Teams and Individual Award Winners

The Big Ten Conference announced the 2015 All-Conference Teams and individual award winners on Wednesday. Minnesota’s Sara Groenewegen captured Player of the Year honors, Michigan’s Megan Betsa was named the Pitcher of the Year and Northwestern’s Sabrina Rabin was tabbed Freshman of the Year. Michigan’s Carol Hutchins was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. During her sophomore campaign, Groenewegen led the Gophers with a .435 batting average, six home runs and a .524 on-base percentage in Big Ten play, while also recording a 12-2 record with 155 strikeouts and four shutouts. Gopher softball falls in Super Regional Opener

The 16th-seeded Minnesota softball team fell in its first-ever NCAA super regional game Saturday night, dropping a 10-2 decision in six innings to No. 1 Oregon at Howe Field in Eugene, Ore. The loss, which dropped the Gophers’ 2014 record to 44-11, occurred before a Howe Field-record 1,954 fans. After losing in its first meeting with the Ducks since 2003, Minnesota is now 5-4 all-time against Oregon. For the 41st time this season, the Gophers got on the scoreboard first. Five Big Ten teams make NCAA Softball Tourney

Five Big Ten softball teams earned NCAA tournament berths Sunday night, led by Minnesota, which won the Big Ten Tournament championship and earned the No. 16 overall seed. Big Ten Softball tourney: Gophers take home title

Sam Macken had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh to lead No. 3 Minnesota to a 3-2 victory over No. 1 Michigan in the Big Ten Softball Tournament championship game. The victory marked the second Big Ten softball title in program history, and the first since 1999. Minnesota kicked off the day with a 9-0 shutout win over Ohio State in a tournament semifinal matchup.
