As I do every Wednesday, I have questions that I hope are answered Saturday. One week away from the start of Big Ten play, here are my most pressing queries for the 10 Big Ten teams in action this week.
If you’ve watched Illinois, Michigan State, Ohio State or Purdue basketball recently, you may have noticed their jerseys have a large, yet faint, design on the back. It’s a Nike thing, and it’s called the Aerographic design. Add Minnesota to the club. Sophomore Joe Coleman tweeted a picture of the new jersey Wednesday.
Minnesota has been one of the pleasant surprises in the Big Ten, notching a 3-0 start that has fans thinking the Golden Gophers have a good chance to play in a bowl for the first time since 2009.
The Big Ten went 10-2 last week. But look closer. It wasn’t an impressive 10-2. The wins came vs. FCS Charleston Southern; FCS Northern Iowa; UMass; Arkansas State, Western Michigan; Cal; Navy; Boston College, Utah State and Eastern Michigan. And Indiana lost to Ball State.
Each Tuesday morning during the Big Ten football season, all 12 coaches hold a Big Ten teleconference with reporters from around the country. We post the audio Tuesday afternoon for each segment of the call, and we do this every week. Also, @B1Gfootball spotlights a tweet or three from each coach on the call live on Twitter in case you want to follow along.
Lots of questions in today’s Big Ten headlines. Will Rex Burkhead play this weekend? How dangerous is this upcoming opponent for Illinois? What does Michigan’s Brady Hoke think about the future of the series against Notre Dame? Find those items and plenty more in my links in this post.
With Week 3 behind us, it’s time for my latest Big Ten Player Rankings. Again, I’m doing these a little different this year. Whereas I used to rank the top 10 players – a practice that was tough due to all the talent on both sides of the ball – I’ll rank the top six offensive and defensive players each week.
