The Big Ten posted 10 top-ten finishes on the final day of the NCAA Championships on Sunday. Michigan paced the Big Ten with a fifth-place finish (271 points), Indiana finished 10th (140) and No. 12 Ohio State (106), No. 17 Purdue (56) and No. 24 Minnesota (37) followed in the standings. Minnesota moved on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 7-3 victory over Boston University on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center. The Gophers never trailed in the see-saw affair to capture their first tournament win in five calendar years. Minnesota will play North Dakota at 5:30 p.m. ET Sunday. (AP) The NCAA has granted injured Minnesota forward Trevor Mbakwe a sixth season of eligibility. Now it’s up to Mbakwe to decide if he wants to take it.
Minnesota, Michigan and Michigan State are three of the 16 men’s hockey teams in the NCAA Tournament that leads to the Frozen Four. Michigan (9), Minnesota (5), and Michigan State (3) have combined for 17 NCAA championships.
