In its exhibition finale, Minnesota dropped 3-happy Southwest Baptist, 86-59, Monday night at Williams Arena. The Bearcats attempted a whopping 36 3-pointers, hitting just 10 on the night (27.8 percent), while the Gophers shot 53 percent from the field. Rodney Williams scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds and swatted two shots, both game highs, while Joe Coleman put in a game-high 15 points.
Trevor Mbakwe is very confident in his team, to the point that he’s making a guarantee. The Minnesota power forward tweeted Saturday night that he’ll pay back this season’s scholarship if the Gophers don’t make the NCAA tournament. See the tweet in this post, plus a couple follow up ones.
We’re going to try something new this year. Instead just previewing every team like we usually do, we’ll give the people what they really want—ammunition to win arguments. So for every team, we’ll have both sides of the debate covered. First up, Minnesota.
Here are few individual highlights from Minnesota’s exhibition game on Thursday night, including a run at the end of the first half. Minnesota had a 5-0 run starting with a three-pointer from Austin Hollins, a steal and a dunk from Maverick Ahanmisi. The Gophers won the game 81-56.

Whether the players have big shoes to fill, they’re considered the missing piece or they’re coming off down years, Yarina offers one guy for every Big Ten team. See the list in this post.
