The Michigan ice hockey team dropped a 5-1 contest to Bowling Green on Tuesday night at Yost Ice Arena. The Falcons, which led 32-20 in shots in the game, carried a two-goal lead into the second period, before U-M cut it to one. It’s been talked about and reported on for months but now it’s official: Two Big Ten men’s hockey teams will play a game at Chicago’s Soldier Field next winter as part of the inaugural Hockey City Classic. The doubleheader will feature Notre Dame vs. Miami (Ohio) and Minnesota vs. Wisconsin.

Men’s hockey will become an official Big Ten sport in the 2013-14 academic year, so with that in mind, the Big Ten Conference office announced Thursday that its tournaments will be held at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn., in 2014 and 2016, and at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., in 2015 and 2017.
