Ranking the top Big Ten running back duos

Our BTN tour bus stopped in Madison, Wis., Friday to take in Wisconsin camp. While watching practice, senior writer Tom Dienhart sent out the following tweet about Wisconsin’s talented running back duo. It doesn't get much better than Corey Clement and Melvin Gordon, the best RB duo in the #B1G. #Badgers — Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) August 15, 2014 This got me thinking about the best duos in the conference. Are Gordon and Clement indeed the top duo? Get all of our latest rankings posts: Here are my rankings. 1. Melvin Gordon and Corey Clement, Wisconsin: Dienhart got it

Mitch Leidner

Minnesota camp preview: Is Leidner the answer?

Minnesota is a program on the rise as it enters its fourth season under Jerry Kill. The Golden Gophers have seven starters back on offense and six on defense. Kill has seen his win total go from three to six to eight in each of this three seasons in Dinkytown. Can he improve it for a fourth season in succession? Well, posted a popular list ranking the best college towns that made its way around social media Thursday, and the Big Ten was all over it. In fact, the Big Ten owned two of the top three towns: Ann Arbor (No. 2) and Madison (No. 3). Boulder came in at No. 1, for the curious minds. Countdown to kickoff: West best uniform?

Kickoff is fast approaching. To help count down the days to Aug. 28, the team is discussing one topic every day. Think of it as our countdown to kickoff. Today’s topic: West best uniform? See Tom Dienhart, Sean Merriman and Brent Yarina’s picks in this post. See our other countdown features: Tom Dienhart: Nebraska. I just like the classic simplicity of the “N” helmet, which is iconic. Too conservative for you? Well, the school has introduced some alternate looks to spice things up. Still, the iconic basic red jersey and white pants are difficult to top. *** Sean Merriman:

What the O'Bannon ruling means for college sports

The NCAA’s model for amateurism took another hit with Friday’s ruling that the NCAA violated anti-trust law in the Ed O’Bannon suit. This, ladies and gentlemen, is maybe the most important ruling in the history of the NCAA. But things may not be as bad you think for the NCAA. In essence, this ruling says the NCAA no longer can prevent schools from giving student-athletes money based on their names, images and likenesses (NIL). It also isn’t allowed to impose a salary cap below $5,000. That money can be put in a trust. The NCAA scored a win, however, in
