Minnesota reverted back to what it knows best Saturday against Nebraska – running the football. The Golden Gophers tallied 271 rushing yards in their 34-23 win over the Cornhuskers, their most in Big Ten play this season and most against a conference opponent since recording 327 yards against Michigan State in 2005.
This was a program-defining win for Minnesota under Jerry Kill’s watch. But really, it was much more than that. The Golden Gophers’ 34-23 upset victory over No. 24 Nebraska was a testament to the foundation that Kill has laid since arriving in the Twin Cities in 2011. It also embodied the toughness Kill possesses as a coach and in his fight to control his epilepsy.

There’s a reason to cheer for the Minnesota Gophers football team, and it has nothing to do with being a fan of the team, the players, or the Big Ten conference in general. Minnesota is a team that is playing for a purpose. A team that is playing to honor a member of their own, head coach Jerry Kill, who had to step away from the team and the game he loves to deal with personal health issues.
With it being the last Saturday before Halloween, Goldy the Gopher made sure to bring a festive spirit to TCF Bank Stadium for Saturday’s game vs. Nebraska. Watch a video of Goldy dancing around in one of his costumes, and check out all of his different costumes in this post.
