Fifth-year coach Kevin Borseth resigned as Michigan women’s basketball coach after posting a 77-73 overall record and a 38-48 Big Ten mark with the Wolverines. Michigan made a 2012 NCAA Tournament appearance. “I have decided to resign my position and return to Wisconsin-Green Bay as head coach,” Borseth said. Read more at MGoBlue.com. It was a rough day Sunday for Big Ten women’s basketball teams as the conference went 1-4 in NCAA first-round games. Big Ten regular season champ Penn State was the lone victor, ousting UTEP, and joins Big Ten tourney champ Purdue, which won Saturday, in Round 2. A Big Ten-record seven teams were selected to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship field of 64, it was announced on Monday night. Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State and Purdue will represent the conference in the tournament, marking the first time seven Big Ten teams have advanced to the tourney, one more than the previous record of six (1996, 2002, 2003, 2004).
