Two of the Big Ten’s four NCAA softball tourney teams advanced to Sunday’s regional finals. Big Ten regular-season champ Michigan and Nebraska, both regional hosts, are still alive following wins over Cal and Stanford, respectively; the two teams are another win vs. the same teams away from advancing to the second weekend. A quartet of Big Ten softball teams were selected to the NCAA tourney, it was announced late Sunday night. Big Ten regular-season champ Michigan earned the No. 8 national seed and Nebraska the No. 14, while Minnesota and Big Ten tourney champ Wisconsin also made the field.

The Michigan softball team (42-9, 18-2 Big Ten) secured the outright Big Ten Championship and the No. 1 overall seed in the 2013 Big Ten Softball Tournament with its 2-1 victory over Northwestern on Friday. The No. 21-ranked University of Michigan softball team jumped out to a 3-1 lead after two innings, but No. 3 Alabama scored three unanswered runs to win the second game of the NCAA Super Regional, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium. The loss eliminated Michigan from the NCAA Tournament. Freshman LHP Haylie Wagner picked up the loss after hurling all 7.0 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
