There was some serious talent and royalty on the sideline Saturday afternoon at the Michigan spring game. Heisman winners Desmond Howard (1991) and Charles Woodson (1997) were at Michigan Stadium to get a sneak peek at the 2014 Wolverines. Our Lisa Byington caught up with both during the action to see their thoughts on what they were seeing.
The website StadiumJourney.com recently released a list, ranking the best college basketball arenas across the nation. The rankings are based on several categories, which include: food and beverage in the arena, overall atmosphere, the neighborhood in which the arena resides, the fans, the access (including traffic, parking, restrooms, and ability to move around in the arena), overall return on investment, and a catchall category for any extras.
BTN/BTN2Go will air the Michigan spring game at 2 p.m. ET Saturday, with a re-air at 8. The Wolverines are coming off a frustrating 7-6 season, one that started with many experts pegging them for the Big Ten title game. There’s a clear sense of urgency in Ann Arbor, as Michigan has gone from 11 to eight to seven wins in Brady Hoke’s first three seasons.
Today marks the 25th anniversary of Michigan’s 1989 NCAA men’s basketball title. It was on April 3, 1989, that Rumeal Robinson hit those two memorable free throws to help Michigan outlast Seton Hall, 80-79, in overtime of the NCAA final. It was an amazing run for the Wolverines, who claimed their first crown despite having “Michigan Man” Steve Fisher take over as head coach days before the tourney following Bill Freider’s decision to accept the Arizona State post.
The 37th annual McDonald’s High School All-American game is set to take place tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET at the United Center. The game will feature three future Big Ten players in James Blackmon Jr. (Indiana), D’Angelo Russell (Ohio State) and Melo Trimble (Maryland), all of who will play for the East Team.
