Ohio State finishes No. 1 on USA Today's first Fan Index

Which team had the ultimate college football fanbase in 2014? According to USAToday’s first Fan Index, it’s non other than Big Ten champ Ohio State. The Buckeyes topped the publication’s first-ever Fan Index, which combined fan voting and social media activity throughout the season to determine the rankings, ahead of Sugar Bowl opponent Alabama. The Big Ten was home to two of the top 10 highest-paid college football assistants in 2014. Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi came in at No. 7 ($907,033) to pace the Big Ten, while Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison was No. 10 ($888,333). Virginia Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster topped the list ($1,369,500), $6,500 ahead of Alabama DC Kirby Smart. The Big Ten had 10 assistants land in the top 50. Big Ten recognizes fall Academic All-Big Ten honorees

The Big Ten Conference on Wednesday recognized a total of 977 fall sports student-athletes who have been named to the Academic All-Conference team. To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners who are in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
