BTN will air more soccer than ever before

CHICAGO – BTN will televise more soccer this season than ever before, with at least 60 matches set to air on BTN, including for the first time each round of the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Soccer Tournaments. Each BTN broadcast is also available on BTN2Go. The soccer season on BTN begins on Friday, Aug. 24, when defending Big Ten Champion Penn State women host 2011 National Champion Stanford, while the men begin on Sunday, Sept. 23, with seven-time national champion Indiana at Ohio State. Weekend Olympic Sports Roundup

The weekend saw several of the conference’s soccer and field hockey teams in action. Senior keeper Jeremy Clark tallied his fourth shutout of the year and red-shirt freshman Ryan Keener headed in the game’s only goal as Michigan State (6-7-4, 2-2-2) took back the Big Bear Trophy with a 1-0 victory over rival Michigan. Michigan State Shuts out Michigan

The previous four matches in the rivalry’s history ended in ties, but Megan Marsack and Laura Heyboereach scored second-half markers to help Michigan State down Michigan, 2-0, at DeMartin Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Spartan keeper Jill Flietstra made five saves en route to tallying her seventh shutout of the season. With the win, Michigan State improved to 11-4, 4-3 in Big Ten play, while Michigan fell to 8-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 in conference play. Iowa Shuts Down Michigan State

The University of Iowa women’s soccer team shut out Michigan State on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 final score at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The teams were No. 3 and 4 in the Big Ten standings entering the weekend. Iowa improved to 10-1-2 on the season and 2-1-2 in league play after handing Michigan State its first loss of the conference season.  Iowa’s goal keeper Emily Moran had nine saves in the shutout victory.
