Big Ten hands out 2014 All-Big Ten Softball honors

The Big Ten announced the 2014 All-Conference Teams and individual award winners on Wednesday. Michigan’s Sierra Romero captured Player of the Year honors for the second straight season, while Minnesota’s Sara Groenewegen became the first Golden Gopher to collect both Pitcher and Freshman of the Year honors in the same season. Nebraska’s Rhonda Revelle was tabbed the Big Ten Coach of the Year. 2014 Big Ten softball tournament schedule

The Big Ten conference announced the 2014 Big Ten Softball Tournament bracket on Sunday, with Michigan earning the No. 1 seed after clinching a share of its 18th conference championship. Nebraska, which secured the No. 2 seed in the tournament, also earned a share of its first Big Ten title after completing a three-game sweep of Indiana on Sunday. The tournament will begin on Thursday with the title contest slated for Saturday night at Sharon J. Drysdale Field in Evanston, Ill. The Michigan State softball team honored Lacey Holsworth during its game Wednesday afternoon vs. Indiana. Holsworth, the 8-year-old with neuroblastoma who befriended Michigan State star basketball player Adreian Payne, died from cancer late Tuesday night. BTN to air record number of baseball, softball games

CHICAGO – BTN will offer its most extensive baseball and softball coverage ever, with over 240 events airing on BTN, BTN2Go and the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN) for the 2014 season. BTN’s television coverage of Big Ten baseball begins with the third game of a three-game series between Indiana and Michigan. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday from Bloomington. Last season, Indiana won both the Big Ten Championship and Tournament, and advanced to the College World Series, becoming the first Big Ten squad to reach Omaha since Michigan in 1984. Michigan sweeps All-Big Ten softball individual honors

The Big Ten Conference announced the 2012 All-Big Ten Softball Teams on Wednesday afternoon, and five-time reigning champ Michigan dominated the honors. The Wolverines swept all of the individual laurels, with first baseman Amanda Chidester taking home Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Sunday's Big Ten Softball Roundup

The University of Iowa softball team won its third straight Big Ten series, downing Indiana, 10-0, in five innings on a soggy Sunday afternoon at Pearl Field. Following the game, the Hawkeyes recognized seniors Katie Keim and Liz Watkins for Senior Day. The victory improves Iowa’s record to 23-24 overall and 12-6 in the Big Ten, while Indiana falls to 24-25 overall and 8-10 in conference play. Saturday's Big Ten Softball Roundup

Illinois softball used a disciplined approach at the plate to secure a 5-1 victory over No. 22 Michigan in eight innings at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon. While the Illini lineup worked eight walks over the contest, the most issued by the UM pitching staff on the season, Illinois broke through for five runs in the top of the eighth to earn the win against the Big Ten-leading Wolverines, who entered the day with a 12-3 conference record.
