Chicago Rower Takes On Lake Michigan Challenge

When we traded emails with Jenn Gibbons on Friday afternoon, the former Michigan State rower was just a little busy navigating the Lake Michigan waters off the shore of southern Wisconsin. With an eye on cranking across almost 30 miles day in her specially designed boat named Liv, the Chicago resident is rowing around the entire perimeter of Lake Michigan to raise awareness about the to fight to beat breast cancer. 4 B1G teams make Rowing Championships

Big Ten champion Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin were selected to the 2012 NCAA Division I Rowing Championships, the NCAA Rowing Committee announced on Tuesday. The championships will be held May 25-27 at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J. The regatta includes 16 teams. Michigan is making its 12th appearance in the meet, while Michigan State was selected to its 14th championships in the last 15 seasons. Ohio State is making its 13th consecutive visit to the national event, while Wisconsin appears in the regatta for the ninth time. [View NCAA.com’s Rowing Championships page]

Michigan wins fifth Big Ten Rowing Title

The University of Michigan women’s rowing team found itself in third place in the standings heading into the final two races of the Big Ten Championships on Sunday at Eagle Creek Park, but wins in the first and second varsity eight races earned the Wolverines a conference-best fifth Big Ten title.
