Well, with the postseason on our doorstep, here are my picks for the top three postseason efforts for the 10 Big Ten schools in action this season. Let the debate begin. It’s another light week for college basketball with many students enduring finals, and the Big Ten is no different. Still, we got a few interesting games last night that are worth discussing, plus the quiet period provides us a nice chance to catch up on some individual player stats. Let’s jump right in.
The Big Ten was well represented on the AP All-America team, with nine players tabbed. Illinois DE Whitney Mercilus, Michigan C David Molk, Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy, Penn State DT Devon Still and Wisconsin RB Montee Ball and G Kevin Zeitler were all first-teamers, while Nebraska LB Lavonte David and Wisconsin C Peter Konz earned second-team honors, and Ohio State DT John Simon was a third-team pick. Most impressive, Mercilus, Still and Worthy represent three of the four defensive lineman on the first team. Yeah, it was that kind of year for the Big Ten in the trenches.

It’s time to release my latest Big Ten men’s hoops power rankings. The rankings are not meant to mimic the Big Ten standings. What fun would that be? They aren’t scientific, either. They’re simply my thoughts on where each Big Ten team stands right now and who would win on a neutral court. Agree? Disagree? Tweet @BTNBrentYarina or leave your comments below. Watch Gus Johnson call Ben Brust’s sixth 3-pointer from Saturday’s win over UNLV now and see the rankings in this post.
For the first time since D.J. White and Eric Gordon suited for the Hoosiers, Indiana is ranked in both major college basketball polls. Indiana, fresh off its upset victory over then-No. 1 Kentucky on Saturday, came in at No. 18 in AP Poll and No. 20 in the Coaches Poll, its first national ranking since the 2007-08 season. The Hoosiers are 9-0 and visit instate foe Notre Dame on Saturday. Ohio State remained No. 2 despite its loss at Kansas, while Michigan State also debuted in the polls. See the latest rankings.
