So many of us have seen basketball players go to their knees and kiss the center court logo as they exit for the final time on Senior Day. But what about hockey players kissing the logo at center ice? It’s a Michigan State tradition, and thanks to @MSU_Hockey, there’s an outstanding photo of this year’s senior class continuing the tradition Saturday night.
A lot of hockey action took place Friday night. As seen on BTN, Michigan edged Michigan State 3-2 at Yost Ice Arena. In Columbus, the Buckeyes upset ninth-ranked Notre Dame 6-3. In women’s hockey action, Minnesota won their seventh WCHA regular season title against Minnesota Duluth with a 5-0 win. Modeled after a similar program at Michigan State for football, any female hockey fan could sign up. For Byington’s hockey session, she was joined by a few familiar Michigan State faces. The Michigan State men’s hockey team will have four new jersey designs for the 2012-13 season, the school announced Thursday. Featured in the new collection, the Spartans will introduce new standard home and away jerseys, as well as a pair of vintage sweaters. Men’s hockey will become an official Big Ten sport in the 2013-14 academic year, so with that in mind, the Big Ten Conference office announced Thursday that its tournaments will be held at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn., in 2014 and 2016, and at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., in 2015 and 2017.
