The Michigan State men’s hockey team will have four new jersey designs for the 2012-13 season, the school announced Thursday. Featured in the new collection, the Spartans will introduce new standard home and away jerseys, as well as a pair of vintage sweaters. Men’s hockey will become an official Big Ten sport in the 2013-14 academic year, so with that in mind, the Big Ten Conference office announced Thursday that its tournaments will be held at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn., in 2014 and 2016, and at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Mich., in 2015 and 2017.
Michigan and Michigan State were eliminated from the NCAA tournament Friday night. The Wolverines lost in overtime to Cornell, while the Spartans fell to Union. Read recaps in this post and view the interactive NCAA bracket.
Minnesota, Michigan and Michigan State are three of the 16 men’s hockey teams in the NCAA Tournament that leads to the Frozen Four. Michigan (9), Minnesota (5), and Michigan State (3) have combined for 17 NCAA championships. Junior All-America candidate Torey Krug singlehandedly brought Michigan State out of a two-goal hole and his assist on Matt Berry’s game-winner in the third period helped the 17th-ranked Spartans down archrival Michigan, 3-2, in front of 7,103 fans at Munn Ice Arena.
