Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo has seen more than his share of clutch performances and high-pressure situations. But even in his biggest games, there have been breaks in the action. In real emergencies, there are no timeouts, no commercials. That lesson — along with several others — was driven home for Izzo and other MSU coaches during a rather unusual team-building exercise at an annual Athletics Department retreat in early June. The Big Ten announced on Wednesday the 28 honorees named Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners for the 2014-15 academic year. These standouts were chosen from a group of more than 350 students honored throughout the academic year who had displayed positive sportsmanship. One member of each varsity sports team on every campus was chosen by his or her institution as a Sportsmanship Award honoree, and two Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winners were then selected from each institution. The Big Ten office announced the dates and opponents for the 2015-16 hockey season Wednesday, featuring 20-game schedules for each of the six conference programs. The schedule concludes with the 2016 Big Ten Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament, to be held March 17-19 at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn.
