To encourage students to engage with science in their daily lives, there was a public demonstration on campus at the University of Iowa recently.
The 2014 Big Ten Men’s Hockey Tournament kicked off with a bang as we had two outstanding games on Thursday. No. 6 Penn State opened with a memorable 2-1 victory over No. 3 Michigan in double overtime. Ohio State followed with an impressive 2-1 win over Michigan State in overtime. Drew Brevig scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lead Ohio State to a 2-1 victory over Michigan State in a Big Ten Men’s Hockey Tournament opener. With the victory, the Buckeyes advance to play No. 1 Minnesota at 8 p.m. ET on Friday in a Big Ten semifinal matchup.
Penn State freshman Zach Saar scored the game-winning goal in double-overtime to lift the Nittany Lions to a 2-1 win over Michigan in the opening game of the 2014 Big Ten Men’s Hockey Tournament. Taylor Holmstrom added a goal and sophomore goalie Matthew Skoff had 52 saves for Penn State.
On Tuesday, six Big Ten hockey coaches joined the Big Ten teleconference to take questions from the media. We’ve posted the audio for each coach on the call here. BTN/BTN2Go will air the inaugural Big Ten tourney in its entirety, starting Thursday afternoon and ending Saturday night at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn.
The Big Ten Conference announced the hockey All-Conference teams and individual award winners on Monday as selected by the conference’s coaches and a media panel. Minnesota’s Adam Wilcox was named Big Ten Player and Goaltender of the Year. Fellow Gopher Mike Reilly earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, awarded to a defenseman or forward, while Minnesota head coach Don Lucia was tabbed Coach of the Year. Michigan’s JT Compher collected Freshman of the Year laurels.
