Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue advanced to the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships following the conclusion of the regional championships on Saturday. Each team finished in the top eight of their respective regionals to move on to the championships.
It appears Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon and Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis will tee off against each other again on July 24 in their ongoing friendly competitive golf series. Brandon and Hollis hammered out the deal on Twitter and we have the tweets to prove it. Looks like Brandon gets to pick the course, too. Do you remember who won last year? The 2012 Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships took place at the Pete Dye Course at French Lick this weekend, and reigning champs, Illinois and Michigan State, hoisted the hardware again Sunday afternoon. Michigan State’s Kathryn Mahoney suffered a life-altering injury doing what she loved most: competing in gymnastics. One moment, she’s honing her craft on the vault, and the next she’s motionless. Mahoney fractured her C6 vertebra one day in practice, leaving her paralyzed and wheelchair-bound. Ever since the incident, Mahoney has received support in all walks of life. “It’s been incredible,” Mahoney said, “I can’t even thank all of the people who have been supporting me.” Watch her inspiring story.
