Another preseason top 25 poll was released Wednesday afternoon, but unlike previous ones, it doesn’t have Michigan as the highest-ranked Big Ten team. It has the Wolverines ranked third among Big Ten teams, in fact. Evidently, SI.com is higher on Wisconsin and Michigan State, which it has ranked No. 6 and No. 8, respectively. Michigan comes in at No. 13, while Nebraska (No. 19) and Ohio State (No. 22) round out the Big Ten contingent.
The BTN tour continues Wednesday, with the tour bus stopping in West Lafayette, Ind., to take in Purdue practice. On Tuesday, we watched Northwestern in Kenosha, Wis., and here are my thoughts from that practice. Don’t forget about the Northwestern Preview Show at 10 p.m. ET Wednesday. Until then, enjoy Wednesday’s Big Ten web links.
Big Ten football players probably think the autograph requests can get a little out of hand at times. Should they feel this way, they need to take a look at a photo taken Tuesday at the 10th annual “Meet the Spartans.” The Michigan State Athletics Facebook page posted a photo gallery from Tuesday’s event, and one of the pictures features a young Michigan State fan looking on in awe as his football is signed. See the picture in this post and view the entire gallery.
Last spring we offered up some pretty cool basketball-themed graphics for each Big Ten school that are suitable headers for your Facebook timelines, and our readers told us they loved them. Now, just in time for football season, we present to you our Big Ten football versions in case you want to dress your page up for fall.
Believe it or not, BTN will celebrate its fifth anniversary later this month. The big day is Aug. 30, to be exact. As a way to celebrate – not to mention kill time before the 2012 season kicks off – I’m spotlighting some of the great football careers during our time on the air. I’ll do it in the mold of “Big Ten’s Best,” our popular countdown show that returns this fall for another season of ranking the best in Big Ten history. My first list ranks the top five wide receivers of the last five seasons, aka the BTN era.
