Clothes Call: Check out these Big Ten hoops changes

A new basketball season is upon us. Before the ball tips early next month, let’s take a look at some of the new uniform and court designs we’ll see around the Big Ten this season. Some good news: After talking to team representatives, it seems like we won’t see the adidas “Bleed Out” or Nike “Hyper Elite Road” uniforms that debuted last season. That doesn’t mean the companies won’t come out with some other new

Big Ten Geeks: Iowa 2013-14 Preview

Last year Iowa returned to respectability, amassing 25 wins for the first time since Steve Alford was the coach. Top moments from Iowa's Midnight Madness

Iowa basketball fans were treated to a fun night of festivities as Fran McCaffery’s team was introduced to the public at the Hawkeyes’ Black and Gold Blowout event on Friday evening. The night’s events included a team introduction, a dunk contest and a full scrimmage. There were several standout performances throughout the night, but it was Iowa junior Gabe Olaseni who stole the show. Olaseni threw down a Michael Jordan-like dunk after taking off from the free throw line and throwing it down with one hand: WOW! RT @BTN_Iowa MUST SEE: @Iowahoops Gabe Olaseni does his best MJ impression and

Five B1G teams land in Coaches Top 25

The release of the USA Today coaches poll is another indicator of how close we are to beginning basketball season. I was not shocked to see five Big Ten teams ranked in the new poll: 2. Michigan State, 9. Michigan, 10. Ohio State, 21. Wisconsin and 24. Indiana. I thought Michigan State could have merited being the No. 1 team in the nation. Alas, Kentucky got that honor. But the Spartans are loaded with the likes of Gary Harris and Adreian Payne. They didn’t bypass the NBA draft to finish second. And don’t forget about Branden Dawson. Here are a

Clothes Call: Check out Iowa's new basketball uniform

Expectations are high for Iowa men’s basketball this season. And why not? The Hawkeyes return every major contributor, except for Eric May, from a youthful and talented team that went 9-9 in Big Ten play and advanced to the NIT championship game. Here’s something else to get Hawkeyes fans excited: Iowa will wear new uniforms in 2013-14. Iowa unveiled its new Nike “Hyper Elite” threads Wednesday afternoon at media day, and it’s a more modern design of what the Hawkeyes have worn the past few seasons. The biggest differences include less piping down the sides, a more arched “IOWA” on

Four B1G programs appear in ESPN's "top two-sport schools"

It is no question that football and basketball rule the world of college athletics. Ohio State is considered a “top-notch” national powerhouse when it comes to college football, and the same can be said about Michigan State when talking about college hoops. But what schools are dominant in both sports? Our friends over at ESPN the Magazine recently published an article titled “The Undisputed Two-Sport Champ,” which uses a detailed formula to determine which college programs rule both football and basketball. The formula takes the following three factors into consideration: On-field success (which accounts for 50 percent of the final
