BTN Big 10K Selects Kyle Schwarber as Grand Marshal

The Big Ten Network today announced Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber as the grand marshal of the BTN Big 10K. Schwarber will join thousands of Big Ten fans and runners on Aug. 6, 2016, for 10K and 5K runs, as well as a football-themed tailgate party afterwards. “It will be a blast to relive my Big Ten days at one of Chicago’s best summer tailgates,” said Schwarber, who was an All-American baseball player at Indiana University. “I can’t wait to see Big Ten and Cubs fans hit the city streets to represent their schools and support Special Olympics Chicago.” Schwarber

The 2016 MLB draft came to a close Saturday night. [ MORE: Relive every pick of the 2016 draft at MLB.com ] The three-day event started Thursday night, and Illinois starting pitcher Cody Sedlock was the first Big Ten player off the board, going No. 27 to the Baltimore Orioles. Nebraska outfielder Ryan Boldt (Tampa Bay) and Ohio State outfielder Ronnie Dawson (Houston) each went in the second round, No. 53 and No. 61, respectively. VIDEO: Mason McCoy wins it for Iowa with a walk-off single

Iowa’s Mason McCoy had his biggest hit of the season on the biggest stage. The Hawkeyes’ junior outfielder hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Iowa to a 5-4 comeback victory over Ohio State in Friday’s Big Ten Baseball Tournament. Iowa trailed OSU 4-0 heading into the bottom of the ninth, but the Hawkeyes put four runs on the board in the inning, highlighted by Devin Pickett’s pinch hit single to tie the game.
