BTN Announces 2012 Women's Volleyball Coverage

CHICAGO – BTN will televise more volleyball this season than ever before, with at least 50 matches set to air on BTN.  The season begins with defending Big Ten Champion Nebraska hosting 2011 National Champion UCLA and Stanford at Penn State in the season’s first two weeks. The games will also be available at BTN2Go. Starting Wednesday, Sept. 19, with Nebraska at Penn State, BTN’s fall lineup will feature a match every Wednesday and Friday evenings through the beginning of November. Michigan State Takes Down Hoosiers

Michigan State women’s volleyball team earns their 6th win of the Big Ten Conference season on Wednesday night against Indiana Hoosiers, 3-1. The Spartans came out firing on all cylinders, taking the first set 25-19. The Big Ten leaders in hitting percentage, Michigan State hit .387 in the first set, led by Jenilee Rathje and Alexis Mathews who combined for 11 kills on 13 swings. Indiana (8-15, 0-11) fell in four sets to Michigan State (17-6, 6-5) in five sets (19-25, 25-21, 15-25, 22-25). Watch the highlights of the game now. Wisconsin Trips Up Indiana

Indiana Volleyball (8-14, 0-10) fell in four sets to Wisconsin (13-9, 5-5) in five sets (25-20, 18-25, 18-25, 19-25). IU got 16 kills from Ivie Obiemeand five service aces from Caitlin Cox. Wednesday Volleyball Roundup

Wednesday was a busy night for Big Ten volleyball. Several of the conference’s top teams were in action including top-ranked Illinois who faced Northwestern. The Illini’s perfect season is still in tact following a straight set win over the Wildcats (25-19, 25-23, 25-19). Weekend Olympic Sports Roundup

The weekend saw several of the conference’s soccer and volleyball teams in action. The 18th-ranked Indiana men’s soccer team rallied from a 1-0 deficit with four unanswered goals from Eriq Zavaleta, Alec Purdie and Nikita Kotlov in a 4-1 victory at Michigan on Saturday night. Friday Night Volleyball Round-up

Several Big Ten volleyball teams were in action on Friday night including the top-ranked Illini who remained undefeated by beating Indiana 3-1 (15-25, 25-21, 19-25, 14-25). Ninth-ranked Penn State earned a 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) victory against conference foe Wisconsin. There was an upset in Columbus as No. 24 Ohio State beat tenth-ranked Minnesota in three sets (23-25, 20-25, 26-28). Meanwhile, the Michigan held off Iowa in a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 25-15, 25-17). Spartans Silence Hoosiers With 3-1 Win

The Michigan State volleyball team (12-2, 1-1 Big Ten) posted its first win of conference play with a 3-1 (15-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-18) victory over Indiana (8-6, 0-2 Big Ten) on Saturday, Sept. 24 in Bloomington, Ind. The win snapped MSU’s road losing streak against Indiana as it tallied its first win over the Hoosiers on the road since Oct. 12, 2007. Senior Kyndra Abron paced the team with 15 kills on the night. 2011 Big Ten Volleyball Preview

With eleven Big Ten teams earning preseason recognition in the first AVCA coaches’ poll, it’s going to be another competitive season. The Big Ten’s eight top-25 teams is the most for any conference in the country. Defending NCAA Champion Penn State earned the preseason #1 ranking, followed by Nebraska at #5, Illinois at #8, Minnesota at #12, Purdue at #13, Ohio State at #21 and Michigan at #24. Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern and Wisconsin each also received votes in the preseason poll. Watch now as Kara Lentz takes a look at each Big Ten team heading into the 2011 volleyball season.
