Indiana men's soccer tops Ohio State in B1G opener

The defending National Champion Indiana Hoosiers men’s soccer team started conference play right where they left off last season. Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Nikita Kotlov each scored a goal in Indiana’s 2-0 win over Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Yeagley Field in Bloomington. Sophomore goaltender Michael Soderlund recorded five saves for the Hoosiers, who out-shot Ohio State, 33-10 in the victory. Alex Ivanov had 10 saves in the loss for Ohio State (2-5-2, 0-1 Big Ten). With the win the Hoosiers improve to 4-4-1 on the season and remain undefeated in Big Ten Openers. Check out the full highlights

Reigning NCAA champ Indiana picked to win Big Ten

The Big Ten announced Wednesday its 2013 men’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll and players to watch list, with defending national champion Indiana earning top honors among the seven conference teams. The Hoosiers, who are ranked No. 1 in the NCAA preseason top 25 poll, became the first-ever No. 16 seed to win the national title last season. Reigning Big Ten Tournament Champion Michigan State checked in at No. 2, followed by No. 3 Northwestern, No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Penn State. Indiana got a goal from Nikita Kotlov in the 64th minute and the stifling Hoosier defense made it stick Sunday. Indiana defeated Georgetown 1-0 at Regions Park to claim its eighth national championship. The goal came after a kick from near the corner-kick spot came in to Eriq Zavaleta. A goal from Eriq Zavaleta in the 60th minute ended an eight year College Cup drought for the Hoosiers, giving them a 1-0 win at No. 9 seed North Carolina in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament Friday night in Chapel Hill, N.C. IU women's soccer coach Mick Lyon retires

Indiana women’s soccer head coach Mick Lyon announced he is retiring as the head coach of the women’s soccer program. In his 11 seasons  at Indiana, Lyon went 95-98-21 and is  202-163-39 for his career. Read more at IUHoosiers.com.
