BTN announces Big Ten baseball tourney coverage

CHICAGO – BTN’s coverage of the Big Ten Baseball Tournament begins at 6 PM ET on Wednesday with No. 1 Indiana vs. No. 8 Iowa from TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., home of the College World Series. The network will also carry games 6, 7 and 8 on Thursday, each game Friday and Saturday and the Big Ten Baseball Tournament Championship Game, which will air at 2 PM ET on Sunday. The Big Ten on Tuesday announced the 2014 baseball All-Big Ten Teams and individual award winners, as voted by the conference’s coaches. Indiana’s Sam Travis was the unanimous choice for Player of the Year, teammate Joey DeNato garnered Pitcher of the Year accolades and Tracy Smith was tabbed Coach of the Year, while Ohio State’s Tanner Tully took home Freshman of the Year honors. 2014 B1G baseball tournament schedule

The Big Ten released the 2014 Big Ten Baseball Tournament bracket on Saturday evening, with Indiana securing the top seed after winning its second straight conference title. The Hoosiers claimed the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament after going 21-3 in conference play. This year’s tournament will feature an eight-team field for the first time and will be held May 21-25 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb., home of the College World Series. The tournament’s double-elimination format will culminate with the title game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The tournament champion will earn the conference’s automatic berth

Indiana seals second straight outright Big Ten title

For the second consecutive season, Indiana is the outright Big Ten champion. The Hoosiers, who owned a share of the conference title entering the final series of the season, wrapped up the outright crown Friday night by virtue of Illinois’ victory over second-place Nebraska. Indiana did its part, too, knocking off Minnesota, 7-3, later in the night to tally its 20th Big Ten win. “To be able to do it two years in a row, that’s pretty special,” Indiana head coach Tracy Smith said. Tom Crean threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Minnesota-Indiana baseball game Thursday night. The Hoosiers, who were looking to clinch their second consecutive outright Big Ten title, lost a 2-1 decision in extra innings. Indiana can wrap up the outright crown with a win Friday or Saturday. With a 9-2 victory over Penn State on Sunday, the Indiana baseball team clinched at least a share of its second straight Big Ten regular season title.
