ACC/Big Ten Women's Challenge matchups set

The Big Ten and ACC announced Tuesday the matchups for the 2012 ACC/Big Ten Women’s Basketball Challenge, set for Nov. 28-29, 2012. This year’s challenge marks the sixth year of the event, which has been extended through 2016. A year ago, the Big Ten and ACC battled to a 6-6 draw, the first tie in the Challenge’s history. Illinois hires Green Bay's Bollant as women's coach

Illinois announced the hiring of Matt Bollant as its new head women’s basketball coach Wednesday morning. Bollant comes to Illinois after a successful five-year stint at Green Bay, where he coached the Phoenix to five straight Horizon League titles and four straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. He replaces Jolette Law, who was fired following this month’s Big Ten tournament. Illinois releases Women's Basketball Coach

Illinois Athletics Director Mike Thomas announced Friday that Jolette Law was released as head women’s basketball coach. Law compiled a record of 69-93 in five seasons as head coach, including 11-19 in the season completed yesterday with a 68-53 loss in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament. Law’s Big Ten record in her five seasons was 27-59, with a highest conference finish of eighth place in 2009. In her first season, Law guided the Illini to a 20-15 record, including an historic run in the 2008 Big Ten Tournament, winning three games and advancing to the championship game

The 2011-12 All-Big Ten Women’s Basketball Teams were announced live on BTN on Monday night. Ohio State’s Samantha Prahalis, Minnesota’s Rachel Banham and Penn State’s Coquese Washington were named player of the year, freshman of the year and coach of the year, respectively, by both the coaches and media. Big Ten Women's Tournament bracket released

The Big Ten Conference announced the bracket on Sunday for the 2012 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament, with conference champion Penn State earning the No. 1 seed and one of four first-round byes. The tournament is set for Thursday-Sunday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, previously known as Conseco Fieldhouse. BTN and BTN2Go will air the tournament’s first 10 games, starting with No. 7 Michigan-No. 10 Illinois at 11:30 a.m. ET Thursday. The championship game will be played at 4 p.m. ET Sunday. PSU clinches share of title; Illinois beats Northwestern

Monday night featured a pair of Big Ten women’s basketball games, and it also saw Penn State clinch at least a share of its first Big Ten title since 2004. The Lady Lions accomplished the feat by powering past ranked Ohio State, 84-66, at the Bryce Jordan Center. In other action, Illinois dropped instate rival Northwestern, 69-57.
