Bracketology: Improving Illinois enters experts' latest mock brackets

Time to take the temperature of the Big Ten’s NCAA tourney hopes. And, a couple of interesting developments have taken place this week. Illinois has made it into the brackets of Jerry Palm of CBSSports.com and Joe Lunardi of ESPN.com. Each has the Fighting Illini in a first-round (play-in) game as a No. 12 seed. The other big development: Palm does not have Michigan State in his bracket. He has the Spartans among his “First Four Out.” Lunardi has MSU as a No. 9 seed. Illinois, Northwestern to play at Soldier Field in 2015, 2017 & 2019

The Illinois football team is set to return to historic Soldier Field for a three-game series vs. rival Northwestern beginning in 2015, Director of Athletics Mike Thomas announced Monday. Illinois will play Northwestern at Soldier Field on Nov. 28, 2015, in a game originally scheduled for Memorial Stadium in Champaign. The two teams will also play at Soldier Field in 2017 and 2019. There was a technical foul called late in Illinois’ 59-54 victory at Michigan State that drew plenty of attention. It all happened with Travis Trice attempting the front-end of a 1-and-1 with 33.2 seconds left and Illinois leading 55-53. Trice made the free throw, but Illinois’ Jaylon Tate, the man in charge of boxing out the shooter, was hit with a technical foul after using his backside to box out Trice.
