BTN to televise nine spring championships in May

CHICAGO – BTN is the home for complete coverage of Big Ten spring championships in May and will televise events in the sports of baseball, softball, men’s and women’s golf, rowing, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. BTN to air record number of baseball, softball games

CHICAGO – BTN will offer its most extensive baseball and softball coverage ever, with over 240 events airing on BTN, BTN2Go and the Big Ten Digital Network (BTDN) for the 2014 season. BTN’s television coverage of Big Ten baseball begins with the third game of a three-game series between Indiana and Michigan. Coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday from Bloomington. Last season, Indiana won both the Big Ten Championship and Tournament, and advanced to the College World Series, becoming the first Big Ten squad to reach Omaha since Michigan in 1984. It’s no secret, the Big Ten is serious about expanding its brand and footprint eastward. The additions of Maryland and Rutgers, both of which officially join the conference July 1, were proof of that. So, too, was the eight-year bowl agreement with New York Yankees and New Era Pinstripe Bowl – a set-up that includes a significant Big Ten branding presence in Yankee Stadium. We saw the first visual proof of the branding presence during the Yankees’ home exhibition game vs. Boston on Tuesday afternoon. Big Ten baseball tourney expands to eight teams

For the first time the Big Ten Baseball Tournament will feature eight teams starting this season when the tourney is in Nebraska. The games will be played at May 21 to 25 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, the same field that hosts the College World Series. The tournament’s double-elimination format ends with a single championship game on Sunday, with the winner earning the tournament title and the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
