Staid and stoic. I can’t think of two words that better describe Tom Osborne. He also was very good at whatever he did, and he did plenty. First as a football coach. Later, as an athletic director. Now, the 75-year-old Osborne is retiring effective Jan. 1, making the announcement today in Lincoln.
CHICAGO – BTN will televise 67 men’s basketball conference matchups, including four Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament games and an additional number of non-conference games, the network announced Wednesday. Gus Johnson, one of America’s favorite sportscasters, returns to BTN for his fifth season.

Former Nebraska football coach and current AD Tom Osborne announced he will retire, effective Jan. 1, 2013, on Wednesday morning. To nobody’s surprise, people hit Twitter to thank Osborne and congratulate him on an unbelievably successful career. See some of the tweets in this post.
Preseason polls are typically frowned upon by fans and coaches alike, but after one weekend of Big Ten volleyball it appears the coaches knew exactly what they were doing when they picked the conference contenders. Four teams have separated themselves, with three of them going 2-0 to start the Big Ten campaign.
