Each Tuesday morning during the Big Ten football season, all 12 coaches hold a Big Ten teleconference with reporters from around the country. We post the audio Tuesday afternoon for each segment of the call, and we do this every week. Also, @B1Gfootball spotlights a tweet or three from each coach on the call live on Twitter in case you want to follow along.
For the first time, BTN will provide full coverage of the Big Ten fall championships and tournaments, including live broadcasts during the 2012 Big Ten Field Hockey Tournament, Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Soccer Tournaments and delayed coverage of the Big Ten Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.
Every week, BTN.com’s Brent Yarina (@BTNBrentYarina) and Tom Dienhart (@BTNTomDienhart) offer their predictions for each Big Ten football game. We also provide a poll for all of the games so fans can vote for their winners.
Despite a spirited second half of play, the Ohio State men’s soccer team fell to second-ranked Akron, 1-0, Tuesday night in front of a season-high 2,125 fans at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and a national television audience on BTN. The Buckeyes drop to 6-9-1 on the season, while the Zips extend their winning streak to eight games and improve to 12-1-2. Read the full recap at OhioStateBuckeyes.com. Watch the highlights now.
We met him as Mon-TEE Ball. He corrected us this summer and said it’s Mon-TAY. Now, he’s back to Mon-TEE, the pronunciation we used last year when he tied the single-season FBS record for touchdowns (39) and was a Heisman finalist. To be clear, the whole thing is more superstition than anything. After a slow start, Ball is running like the Mon-TEE of old. So coaches and players joke they don’t want to see Mon-TAY again. Ball is just playing along.
If you’re an Indiana basketball fan, you’ll love the IUAthletics YouTube video in this post. Even if you don’t like Indiana, you’ll enjoy the editing and execution. The video is called “Then and Now,” and as the fans who saw it tip off Saturday’s “Hoosier Hysteria” can attest, it blends Indiana’s rich history with the current roster, in photos and video. Cody Zeller and Will Sheehey on the bench as Bob Knight tosses the chair? Check. Damon Bailey passing to Victor Oladipo? Check.
There’s a big name making its debut on BTN NFL draft expert Russ Lande’s latest Big Ten Big Board, released Tuesday night on “The Next Level.” That’s right, Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson enters the list for the first time this season. The reasoning? His ability to make plays with the ball in his hands, of course. Watch Lande break down Wisconsin linebacker Chris Borland’s pro prospects and release his latest Big Board in this video.
