BTN Big 10K to benefit Special Olympics

BTN will kick off the start of the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament, back in Chicago for the first time since 2007, by announcing registration opens today for the second-annual BTN Big 10K and 5K on July 27, 2013 in downtown Chicago. This year, the race, which will be nationally televised on BTN, will benefit Special Olympics. Fleet Feet Sports – Chicago is again partnering with BTN to put on both races.

BTN to go inside NCAA tourney selection process

Greg Shaheen, who ran the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament for 12 years, will join BTN host Mike Hall to take fans inside the tournament selection process, from who’s in the room to where the top seeds are headed and why, to how Big Ten teams stack up in 2013. The 60-minute special, Inside the Selection Process, airs at 9 p.m. ET Monday.

BTN rolls out baseball, softball schedules

BTN will offer its most extensive baseball and softball coverage ever, with over 220 events airing on BTN, BTN2Go and BTN.com for the 2013 season. BTN will air at least 84 conference matchups, including the entire Big Ten Baseball Tournament, which will take place at Target Field in Minneapolis.

January primetime ratings are BTN’s highest ever

January 2013 marked the Big Ten Network’s highest-rated month ever in primetime, according to Nielsen metered market data, fueled by high-quality men’s basketball matchups and strong performance of The Journey, which also set new ratings records.  BTN’s average primetime men’s conference basketball rating was 0.87 in the network’s eight metered markets*.  Among all national sports networks for the month, BTN trailed only ESPN in its eight metered markets.

CHICAGO – Saturday’s matchup of No. 5 Indiana vs. No. 10 Minnesota was the highest-rated regular-season basketball game in BTN history, according to Nielsen metered market data. The game earned a program average household rating of 2.08 across the network’s eight metered markets.* The game also was the top-rated cable program Saturday in both Indianapolis and Minneapolis, according to Nielsen.

BTN sets on-air talent roster for basketball

BTN today revealed its studio talent for the 2012 Big Ten men’s and women’s basketball season. Gus Johnson, one of America’s favorite sportscasters, will return to BTN for his fifth season as a men’s basketball play-by-play announcer. Johnson joined BTN during the 2008-09 season. Known for his memorable catchphrases, Johnson’s style is popular among fans.
